Fungi Workshops

Hi Everyone

I recently held three days of fungi group workshops and they proved without doubt to be the most successful fungi workshops that I have ever held!

First of all each workshop took place at separate and diverse locations which meant that the potential species list was tripled. Secondly I had the star mushroom spotter, Ann Jacobs working for me and she came up trumps with some really superb fungi. Thirdly in the days prior to the workshops Ann visited all three sites and knew just what was growing and where. This meant that at the start of each workshop every participant had their own fungi to work on and simply swapped round with each other. There was no queuing or time wasted and it worked so well. By the time they were ready to move on Ann already had the next subjects waiting for them. Working like this means you take far more images than you normally would.

See what Peter B, who participated in all three, emailed afterwards:-

To George and Ann,
“My thanks, for both your efforts over the three fungi days. In particular your prior reconnoitre work meant we students were never at a loss to find and photograph specimens. The three sites you chose were so different and hence very little overlap of examples. I am so pleased with all the images I achieved,”
Peter B

So, not surprising, I intend to hold another three fungi days later in October with Ann but with one major difference. The previous workshops were run on consecutive days and for some participants three days on the trot proved very tiring. So these next workshops will be held on alternate days to allow recuperation time.

By holding the next series at the end of October it will ensure that new and different species, which grow later in the season, will be found. These are group workshops with a maximum of 5 participants and will take place on the following dates:-

Monday 23, Wednesday 25 and Friday 27

The cost of any one of these fungi workshops is £85 but if you book two days the cost is £150 saving you £20. Book all three and the cost is further reduced to £200 saving a staggering £55.

Deer Workshop

I am so pushed for time this year which means I will only be running just one deer group workshop this Autumn and will be held in Richmond Park on Tuesay 10 October. Limited to 6 participants only the cost is £85 and available on a first come/first served basis.

If you are looking for more personalised tuition I also have some dates available for 1/1s & 2/1s but these are very limited.

Club Talks

I start my lecture season soon and many of you have asked me to publish a list of the clubs where I will be giving my talks so here it is. Most clubs and societies welcome visitors these days but please don’t just turn up on the night. You can find all these clubs details on the net and a polite request will normally get a positive response.

Message to Club Secretaries

It might be worth remembering that if your next speaker has to cancel at the last minute I may be able to get you out of jail. I am happy to receive calls up to 24 hours beforehand to try and save the day.

My mobile number is 07840 180791
