The active principle: How the F-500 technology works

The F-500 Encapsulator Agent is a surfactant. It consists of molecules with a polar (hydrophilic) and a non-polar (hydrophobic) portion. This special composition ensures that the extinguishing agent additive fights fires extremely effectively and efficiently. In detail, the following factors play an important role in this:

• Encapsulation: the formation of micelles means that a large number of liquid, gaseous and solid substances are intensively mixed and encapsulated.
  As a result, they are no longer flammable in the long term.
• Reduction of surface tension: The larger surface area ensures that surface tension is reduced and substances evaporate at temperatures as low as 70°C.
• Interfacial activity: Due to the wetting agent effect, the extinguishing agent additive penetrates deep into the burning substance and existing cavities.
• Rapid heat reduction: Evaporation starts at a temperature of 70°C already. The flammable substances cool down below the ignition temperature.

Furthermore, the F-500 Encapsulator Agent consumes only a small amount of extinguishing water. On the one hand, this minimizes collateral damage, and on the other hand, extinguishing traces can be removed with far less effort than when using a powder extinguishing agent.

The safety of the F-500 Encapsulator Agent is also guaranteed by its official approval for the European market by the MPA Dresden in accordance with DIN EN2 for fire classes A and B (approval number SP83/03). The extinguishing agent additive is compliant with the EU REACH regulation.

The F-500 Technology is environmentally friendly

The F-500 Encapsulator Agent was already ecotoxicologically tested in 2005. The detailed results can be found in the download area. In summary, the extinguishing agent additive does not harm the environment or humans due to the following properties:

• Fluorine-free and ecocompatible
• No mutagenic, carcinogenic or mutagenic substances
• No persistent organic pollutants (POPs)
• Not bioaccumulative
• Rapidly biodegradable
• Can be used without residues

In addition, very little extinguishing agent is required per application, with admixture rates ranging from 0.25 to 6 %, depending on the application. Furthermore, F-500 Encapsulator Agent is not a hazardous waste according to EU Directives 1999/45/EC and 67/548/EEC and is rated as readily degradable according to OECD criteria.
